How the math works

Volume = area × depth, summed over every area in the job (subtracted areas are taken away).
Order volume = volume × (1 + compaction %) × (1 + waste %).
Weight = order volume × the material's density. 1 US ton = 2,000 lb; 1 metric tonne = 1,000 kg; 1 yd³ = 27 ft³ = 0.7646 m³.

Why does my supplier's number differ?

Bulk density changes with moisture, stone size and how the pile was loaded. TonCalc uses typical published values. If your yard quotes a different "tons per yard", use a custom material (Pro) or pick the closest material.

Restore Pro on a new phone
