How we keep the math right
Every formula the app shows is the formula it computes: our automated tests evaluate the displayed formula and require it to match the result exactly. The tests also check hundreds of known values and identities. For example, a hemisphere must be exactly half a sphere, a frustum with no top must be a cone, and scaling a shape by k must scale its area by k² and its volume by k³.
The ellipse perimeter and ellipsoid surface area are computed exactly with elliptic integrals. Ramanujan's ellipse approximation is shown alongside and marked ≈.
Entering feet and inches
With feet or inches selected, type 3' 4-5/8", 4 5/8, 2.5 or 5/8, or use the fraction keys. Results in feet and inches also show a carpenter reading such as 3′ 4-5/8″. You can set the fraction precision (1/8 to 1/64) in Settings.
Solve for…: why two answers?
Some problems have two valid answers, like an SSA triangle or a kite angle from its area. The app lists every value that fits and checks each one.
